The Blues' have slumped to back-to-back defeats at the hands of Premier League minnows Birmingham and Sunderland in recent weeks and there title defense is currently looking in complete disarray.

With Chelsea hit with a string of injuries and their first-choice centre-backs out injured, the Blues' manager has finally conceded that they need to buy players in the January transfer window if things get worse. Ancelotti's acceptance has fuelled speculation regarding who the Blues might sign during the winter transfer window.

Here we will rank the articles on the basis of their genuineness or chances of happening.

# 1 Gary Cahill - Recent reports suggest that Chelsea are eyeing the Boton Wanderer's tough tackling defender. In wake of the Blues' defensive crisis which has seen them lose three of their last four games, Ancelotti will be looking to reinforcing the squad during the January transfer window. Cahill valued at around 9-10 millions pound will be a good bargain. He has been rock-steady for Bolton and has made some fine tackles and saves to spare Bolton a couple of goals. Though he has the record for the most fouls so fat this season, yet his tough tackling mentality is what Chelsea can use to their advantage.

# 2 Brede Hangeland - Chelsea boss Ancelotti is reportedly planning to move for Fulham's giant defender Brede Hangeland as he prepares to bolster his squad. The Norwegian has also been targeted by Arsenal, but he has rejected any possible moves. But with Fulham in the bottom part of the table Chelsea could force a move for the defender with a little bit of monetary lure.

# 3 David Luiz - Chelsea are most likely to sign the Benfica star. The Blues' had seen their earlier approaches for the Brazilian defender rejected by his club. But with their defense in tatters Ancelotti might use some more funds to force a move for the highly-rated youngster. Though his club might has already issued a warning that none of their players will be sold in January.

# 4 Neven Subotic - The Borussia Dortmund defender has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the last transfer window before he signed a new contract. But that has not stopped speculations and with Chelsea facing a defensive crisis a possible move for the highly rated youngster. He will cost a fortune but shall be a good investment in the long run. Though having signed a new contract in the summer it is very unlikely that he will make a move.

# 5 Romelo Lukaku - The Belgian wonderkid's agent has dropped hint that an English team are the fore-runners to sign him. Chelsea are supposedly favourites to win the race for the highly-rated youngster as Ancelotti looks to bring young blood into his ageing squad. The Anderlecht striker has earlier revealed his preference for Chelsea as he stated that his idol Drogba had advised him to join the defending Premier League champions. Might cost a few bucks to the Blues' but will be a good move no doubt.

# 6 Bastian Schweinsteiger - The German midfielder has long been linked with a move to Chelsea. In wake of Lampard's injury absence it was hugely speculated that Chelsea were planning a move for the Bayern Munich midfield enforcer. With Munich boss Louis Van Gaal revealing that the German midfielder has been asked to sign a contract or the club will sell him speculations have started over a possible move for the highly-rated midfielder. Though signing him may burn a hole in Abramovich's pocket, yet he will be a good bargain and bolster the squad manifold.
