The Chicago Bears announced today that they released second-round pick Dan Bazuin and third-round pick Mike Okwo.
Both of these players were plagued by injuries in the two seasons that they were with the Bears.
Dan Bazuin had this to say about his release: "They basically told me that the circumstances at my position were a lot different than the circumstances were when I was drafted in the second round."
"Part of that had to do with my injury. And the other part of it had to do with Alex Brown getting a new contract. It changed the way they looked at me."
"I never felt, as a Chicago Bear, that I had the explosion I had before my surgeries."
"Fully healthy, I think I can be a starter in this league for somebody."
Approached after Thursday's preseason finale, Mike Okwo seemed resigned to the fact his time with the Bears was coming to a close.
Other confirmed cuts include: WR Mike Hass, FB Lousaka Polite, RB P.J. Pope, and S Leonard Peters.
Zackary Bowman doesn't know if he will make the team.
Bowman said, when asked about the possibility of being released, "You don't know. It's a business, you just have to wait and see what's going to happen."
These picks are now looked at as mistakes by Jerry Angelo, and who knows, they might turn out to be good, but the Bears have Nick Roach replacing Mike Okwo and Dan Bazuin wasn't needed at the DE position.
The Bears have to bring their roster to 53, and that means they have to make some tough moves.
The Bears will be fine without these players, who were always injured.

It had to be hard to cut Lousaka Polite. I think this guy's going to be a solid player for someone in the league.

Polite is better than Mckie in the passing game that is.

I cannot believe they cut Rideau. To me, he showed so much potential in a position chicago so badly needs. I could do an article right now expressing my anger, but I'll hold off. They kept Hanie, which I like, but Rideau...he really could have been great. Hester: sloppy routes, lacks experience. Booker: getting old. Lloyd: Bad hands. Bradley: hasn't brought to the table what he should have. Bennett: Lacks experience. Davis: not used to being first string player. AH! Why did they let this guy go?? He's not TO or Ocho Cinco, but c'mon, this guy had flashes of brilliance! It's a crowded roster on the WR spot, but it's crowded in their backfield, too, so don't tell me they couldn't have made room...

Spencer, I agree totally. How can a guy produce as much as Rideau and show he is willing to give it his all out there, and then gut cut, when old-man Marty Booker does nothing and makes the team? Ridiculous. Then again, this is the same organization that drafted Bazuin in the 2nd round and Okwo in the 3rd round, and cut them a year later...

These are two more terrible draft picks by Angelo. If you look at his history with injured high draft picks going back to Marc Columbo we can assume that Chris Williams will also likely be a bust. This is one reason why we are getting worse while the rest of the division is getting better.
Lovie is the other problem. Getting rid of Rivera in favor his buddy Babich was pure idiocy. It would be nice to see management make decisions without leaving us wondering if favoritism, race, or the buddy system factored in. The Rivera dismissal smelled bad.
Someone please explain how we can keep Bradley, Booker, McKie, and D.Manning and let go of Rideau, Haas, Polite, Bazuin and Okwo?
Bazuin and Okwo never got a chance to show their talents while healthy. I hope we don't end up watching them start for Dallas like Columbo.
