Manchester United fell to a rather embarrassing defeat at the hands of Zenit St.Petersburg in the UEFA Super Cup clash on Friday in Monaco.

As Sir Alex Ferguson admitted after the game, "Zenit were clearly the better team and they deserved to win."

It was a night on which the Red Devils seemed to run out of fire power.

Too add insult to injury, Paul Scholes was sent off which means he will be suspended for United's clash against Villareal.

Pavel Pogrebnyak opened the scoring and Danny, who cost an astonishing £24million, extended their lead before Nemanja Vidic pulled a goal back.

Andrei Arshavin was surprisingly only used as a second half substitute.

Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney came close to pull a goal from the Red Devils but it seemed the Red Devils weren't really on the top of their game.

On the positive side for United, Park Ji Sung made a remarkable return from injury, as a substitute, the South Korean caused quite a few late problems to the Russian defense with his quick movement.

Despite the result, there is absolutely no time for United to moan and groan about their defeat with Liverpool and Chelsea next up.
