College Football Week One: Cupcake Week

I understand scheduling an easy opponent in week one is to help your team get their legs under them and start the season off with a huge win. But I have never enjoyed it, I want to see 12 weeks of the best football every week.

I don't want to see Texas play Florida Atlantic, I want to see more games like Alabama and Clemson. Don't get me wrong, I love watching Texas win as much as the next guy, but I would rather see a win against an Ohio State.

But every year it is more of the same, big name school vs. some unknown school. C'mon guys, if you want to be considered the best of the best in college football, step up and schedule somebody real.

As a fan of the sport, I would love to see all of the major conferences schedule each other for non- conference. I know that would take away a potential chance of another Appalachian State miracle, but that doesn't happen every season. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind seeing Division One teams scheduling against smaller D1 teams.

At least doing that, you give a team out of the Sunbelt conference a chance to grow and knock off a big school. But who wants to watch Ohio State against Youngstown State. I would rather watch Ohio State play somebody that has a chance to beat them.

While I do sit and watch 13+ hours of football on the first week of the season, I wish the first week of the season would be as exciting as the last. I know it will never happen, every school wants an "easy win", so I will just sit and watch Texas smother Florida Atlantic and wish they were playing a tougher team. But hey! It's football season again and I am as happy as I can be.
