Nine-time UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid, are no longer what they used to be.

So many stars graced the Santiago Bernabeu ground. The likes of Di Stefano and Puskas who played in a team that lifted Europe's most prestigious football award 5 times in a row.

Then came the Galacticos era. The likes of David Beckham, Luis Figo, Zineddine Zidane and Ronaldo all played at Real Madrid.

But today, how good are Real Madrid?

Fabio Capello might have won La Liga for Real, but his no-star policy surely left a bad influence in Madrid. Who are the stars at Real today? Fernando Gago?

Who is Real's playmaker? Guti? They once had Zidane in that position!

Who is Real's striker? Van Nistelrooy? He's great, but do they have good back-up? Saviola, Higuain and Raul? Forgettable. A couple of years back, Michael Owen had no place in the team!

Who is Real's manager? What makes Bernd Schuster good enough to coach Real, while Marcello Lippi remained out of work for two years?

That's why Real want Cristiano Ronaldo, David Villa and others to come to Santiago Bernabeu where things aren't going well. Surely, they did win La Liga though (in a season where Barcelona were terrible).

Chelsea, Manchester United, Milan and Inter all seem more powerful than Real Madrid. So how can Real ask Schuster to bring them the tenth Champions League? How can they hope to be the best when they are clearly lacking in terms of quality of players in several first-team positions?

Do you agree?

What do Real Madrid need to go back to the top?
