The New York Yankees were able to pull through with the win today at the stadium against the rival Boston Red Sox. For a game that looked like was going in the Red Sox way things changed quickly. Boston held a 2-0 lead when Jon Lester left the game. That was the turning point. Hideki Qkajima came in to pitch to pinch hitter Jason Giambi and after two pitches the game was tied at 2. Giambi hit a shot over the center field wall.

Giambi would be the hero again in the bottom of the ninth. He hit a single up the middle to seal the deal for New York. Justin Masterson wasn't able to settle down in the ninth inning.

He loaded the bases and handed the ball to Papelbon, who got ahead in the count 0-2. Papelbon's next pitch was supposed to be up and away, but he left it down and over the plate. It was a bad 0-2 pitch and Giambi made him pay.

The Yankees pulled one game closer in the chase for the AL wild card race, but they still have alot of work to do.
