Pat Tillman was a professional football player with the Arizona Cardinals who had it all. Yet, he decided to enlist in the army after September 11th and was tragically killed in action in Afghanistan after being redeployed from Iraq.

Tillman turned down a $3.6 million contract to join the army, a decision that stunned a lot of people, especially considering that Tillman was a very good player for the Cardinals. He had 155 tackles in 2000 and was named to Dr. Z's 2000 All-Pro Team. He was a Cardinal through and through and even turned down a big deal from the Rams out of loyalty to Arizona.

Tillman has turned into a symbol of sports and the military and how the two can overlap and he's looked at, rightfully so, as a hero by most Americans. On this Veterans Day, we salute Tillman and all of the other men and women who have served in our army throughout this country's history and the words "thank you" don't do enough to show how grateful we are.

Here is a great video commemorating Tillman and the sacrifices he made for himself and this country all in the name of the freedoms that we take for granted each and every day. The world could use a lot more people with Tillman's character and his memory should serve as inspiration to all of us to be a better person.

If you know any veterans, make sure you let them know how much you appreciate them and their service to this country.
