Andy Murray Off to a Strong Start at U.S. Open

Well, I can breathe my first sigh of relief of the US Open. Andy Murray successfully negotiated his first-round match with Argentina's Sergio Roitman, 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.

As I said in my last post, one round at a time for Mr. Murray.

The Scot will now face Frenchman Michael Lodra in the second round today.

Murray is also taking part in the doubles tournament, much to my surprise. He's teamed up with Ross Hutchins and they've moved into the second round after a win over the Thai Ratiwatana twins.

I'd rather he was focusing on the singles, but there is no point giving Andy Murray advice.

It was great to see the world No. 6 looking in good form at Flushing Meadows after his Olympic nightmare.

Can he compete with the man in the photo above?

Rafael Nadal is the new No. 1 in the world and the first seed here at Flushing Meadows. Murray believes the air of invincibility has gone from men's tennis following Nadal's overhaul of Roger Federer, but it could well just have gone from one inevitability to another.

I'd much rather just focus on the second round. I really hope Andy is thinking exactly the same thing.

After all, if you focus too far ahead you can't see what's happening right in front of you!

Come on, Andy!
