Following up on their stunning upset win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Newcastle United look to continue their good run of recent form on Wednesday night, as they welcome Blackburn Rovers to St. James Park.

The Magpies come into the evening looking to register a win at home for only the second time this season, with their only other victory Tyneside coming in a 5-1 thrashing of their hated rivals Sunderland a week and a half ago.

Blackburn coach Sam Allerdyce returns to his old club once again, looking to pull another one over on the club he coached several years ago.

Blackburn comes into the game looking to continue to improve upon their poor start to the season, and distance themselves further from the relegation zone. Despite being fresh off a 2-1 victory over Wigan at Ewood Park, Blackburn still sits at 16th in the league table, just two points clear of 18th.

Housemates Andy Carroll and team captain Kevin Nolan look to lead the Newcastle front line, with both looking to continue their excellent recent goal-scoring records. Carroll, after an excellent start to the season, as well as top-notch recent form, has just recently received his first senior team call-up, having been selected by Fabio Capello for England's friendly match against France next week.

Speaking of Carroll's recent call-up, Newcastle coach Hughton gave his striker great praise to his young striker, saying he fully deserved his spot in the England squad.

Said Hughton, "Andy is mentally very strong. He is a player who is developing, apart from having a prowess in the air, he has given us a mobility which can stretch defenders.

"He has still got a long way to go. Andy is working hard on all aspects on his game and he is certainly going in the right direction.

"For me, being picked for Newcastle United is the most important. Anything which comes from that means he has earned it."
