Over the past few weeks, Valencia High School running back Steven Manfro has played three games (West Ranch, Canyon, Hart). All the statistics are in from the aforementioned games, so now I am prepared for this next update.
All of these matchups are Foothill League games, so there is an extra pressure element in effect.
Steven kicked off his Foothill League season with a bang as he rushed for not only a school, but also a Santa Clarita Valley record 420 rushing yards in a 55-28 thrashing of West Ranch High, breaking a record formerly held by fellow Viking and current California Golden Bears star Shane Vereen.
Next week against Canyon High School, Valencia had their first taste of a close game this season, however they still conquered the Canyon Cowboys 52-31 on two key touchdowns by Manfro in the fourth quarter, result in a 6-1 overall record as well as a 2-0 Foothill League record.
In the most recent matchup, the Valencia Vikings took on the Hart Indians in their annual rivalry game. The Vikings were on extremely high alert last week, but Valencia once again squeaked by in a 24-17 victory over the Indians on two clutch touchdowns by Steven Manfro in the last eight minutes to clinch the victory.
As a result of the past few weeks, the Valencia Vikings are now 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Foothill League play and well on there way to a possible CIF Southern Section playoff berth.
The Vikings' final two games are against Golden Valley and Saugus, with the Golden Valley matchup tomorrow. So look on my Bleacher Report profile over the next week for the next Steven Manfro Profile update.
