The main thought going through training camp and the preseason is to somehow make it through without major injuries. For the most part the Cowboys was doing pretty good.

The first injury of note was to Terrence Newman during the first week of training camp. He had a slight groin tear. He may be back this week for practice and play in the Minnesota Vikings preseason game.

Kevin Burnett suffered a knee injury and had it scoped. They say he might be back in time for the opener. If not, Carpenter will have to fill in for him.

Anthony Spencer was listed at first as a bone bruise on the knee, but there was some tissue that had to be removed in a scope. He may miss the first game and possibly the second game as well. Greg Ellis may just have to take more snaps and the Cowboys keep an extra linebacker until Spencer gets back. Behind Spencer, there is Darryl Robertson and Justin Rogers.

Miles Austin was well on his way of having a great preseason and put him in as the #3 wide receiver. He sprained his knee and may miss one or two games.

Friday night, the Cowboys left guard, Kyle Kosier, injured his foot with a sprain and a hairline fracture and will be out for six weeks. Also, Isaiah Stanback reinjured the shoulder he had surgery on last year. He is rehabbing now, and no decision has been made on having another surgery yet. It has been said that eventually will have to have surgery.

How will these injuries affect the Cowboys?

Newman's injury will not be a factor unless he aggrevates the injury and the Cowboys do have some depth in cornerback this year.

Burnett's injury should allow him to return to the field in time for the Cleveland game. If not, I believe Bobby Carpenter can fill in for him.

The linebacker depth was not as good in my opinion. Spencer's injury will have an effect because now the Cowboys may have to keep an extra linebacker that may have been cut. As mentioned before, Robertson (rookie free agent) and Rogers are behind him. I have not heard much about them which could be bad, because you want the hear about them in a good way of course.

The wide receiver depth just keeps getting worse, Austin's and Stanback's injuries just might help Danny Amendola, Mike Jefferson, or Todd Lowber make the team. Sam Hurd will now be the #3 receiver. Both injuries also have an effect on the kick off return duties because both of these were possibilities in returning the kickoffs.

The biggest impact of any injuries could be Kyle Kosier. The offensive line has been together for two years going into it's third year. The continuity is valuable, and will be missed. Joe Berger is being mentioned as filling in.
