Big East Expansion: League To Expand to 10 Teams In Football
Big East expansion is something that is being looked into and may become a reality sooner rather than later for the conference.
The presidents and chancellors have agreed to expand the conference to 10 football schools with the Big Ten and Pac 10 expanding this year. The Big East currently has eight teams that compete in football and the decision was made after self-analysis and evaluation of the college athletics enviornment.
"Based on those results, the Big East presidents agreed that the interests of each of the conference's 16 member institutions would be served by increasing the number of Bowl Subdivision football-playing members to 10," the league announced in a statement. "They unanimously approved the process to evaluate the terms and conditions for potential expansion candidates."
With how bad the Big East is as a football conference this year, some new blood could really shake things up. Now I'm just throwing it out there, but Notre Dame is a member of the Big East in basketball, could they possibly be a match? I know the Fighting Irish love the independent gravy train they get but it it's just something to think about.
