Every team requires players in the center that perform well week in and week out, the so called "engine room" of the team, from where opportunities are created and taken to the front.

United like any other team enjoy working the ball from the center across to the wings and back across to the opposition box, feeding the forwards.

Other teams prefer moving through the middle of the pitch, quick passing and servicing the strikers.

Nevertheless, United have withing the squad many midfielders who have great ability and talent to make the first team, but the is a handful of really quality players who have the experience to deliver when the expectation is so high.

In this brief slide-show we preview just three midfielders who find themselves required more than anything to perform consistently and deliver the results.

We have seen many young up and coming wingers who provide United with something different, the likes of Gabriel Obertan and Bebe are two names that we have seen last week. They different in many ways yet similar in that they learning the United-way.

With experience and time we hope to see them more often in the first team.

Paul Scholes

    Age: 35

    Nationality: English

    Position: Attacking/ Central Midfielder

He might be reaching the last hurdle as a professional footballer, but year after year Scholes has delivered to the request both of the coach and the fans.

Very seldom do we witness a poor performance by the former England International.

He has one of the most aggressive approaches, his tackles at times are hard and ruthless and often gets him in the book, but his passing and vision is divine.

With Scholesy in the center, long pin point balls across field is just but routine, he enjoys turning oppositions and releasing the ball to the wings.

In the last two seasons, he has come back even stronger with some great match performances. Once again he will be called on to control the match and in many ways hand over the baton to the next generation of United youngsters.

With the likes of Fletcher, Gibson, Anderson and Co, growing into fine footballers they will enjoy every moment to play alongside a player of Shcole's quality.

Over the years Scholes has been compared to many great names, but also has been described as a unique breed of central midfielders.

Amongst the many compliments his received over the years, two that stand out, Zinedine Zidane said he thinks Scholes is the "greatest midfielder of his generation", while Sir Bobby Charlton said Scholes is "the embodiment of all that I think is best about football."

Luis Nani

    Age: 23 (24 On the 17th November)

    Nationality: Portuguese

    Position: Winger

The highly talented winger has long been running in the shadows of country man and close friend Cristiano Ronaldo, now that Ronaldo is turning up the heat in Madrid, Nani has risen to the fore.

He is unstoppable and with match winning performances we hope and pray he finds consistency and accuracy in his future performances.

Two seasons ago we called him a rough diamond, but since he has improved tremendously.

Many might say he is over-rated or just another Ronaldo "wana-bee" but if you take a close look at his recent performances you would identify his desire and passion.

Nani is a confidence player, he reacts to his current state, if he feels he has it within him he will deliver, otherwise you will see poor shots and failed attempts at goal.

His ability to take on defenders, good speed running down the flanks and intelligent use of skill and movement makes him so dangerous and a key part of the United setup.

Darren Fletcher

    Position: Central Midfield/ Right Winger

Amongst the many qualities and characteristics we look for in the modern footballer, passion and loyalty is one rarely found.

Players are changing teams so regularly that they often find it difficulty to stay loyal to a particular club or the passion within them is very controlled and dependent on other factors.

With Fletcher, he has an overwhelming desire to play at Manchester United and been at the club since the age of 16 he has become of of the vital members of the squad.

His passion is evident in every performance, every tackle and every stride he makes on the pitch.

Fletcher together with Scholes will be important in receiving and distributing the ball in the center of the park, while Nani and the rest of the forwards will have to make the best out of their opportunities if United hope to have any chance in chasing Chelsea right till the end of the season.

All three of these talented individuals bring something different to the table but together they can string some of the most potent attacks.

United lucky enough have great depth in their squad, with the likes of Berbatov, Rooney and Hernandez all capable of putting the ball in the net, so long as they get the proper service from the midfield.

Other players whose contributions are always meaningful is that of Park Ji Sung, he has great stamina and will run at defenders for the entire ninety minutes.

Carrick is one who seems to have lost form in recent months, if he can find consistency he could be an important element to the United attack.

United's next game is against Turkish side Bursaspor in the Champions League tonight followed by Wolves at the weekend.
