MLB, NL Central, Chicago Cubs, Rich Harden, Ted Lilly, Game Recap

Rich Harden continued his domination of the National League Sunday, helping the Cubs beat the Nationals 6-1 and earning their eighth consecutive series victory.

Harden only allowed two hits in seven innings of work, allowing one run and striking out eleven, a season high.

Harden won his fourth straight start and added his fifth double digit strikeout game since joining the Cubs.

On an even better note, the Cubs haven't been 30 games over .500 since 1984, when they finished the season 31 over.

Cubs fans are hoping Kosuke Fukudome has broken out of his slump after a talk with Lou Piniella Sunday morning.

Fukudome pinch hit in the game and came up with a two run homer.

Mark DeRosa continues to set career highs in both home runs and RBI's.

DeRosa hit a homer in his fourth straight game, and now has 18, and 77 RBI's.

The Cubs will go on the road for a short trip to Pittsburgh.  Ted Lilly (12-2) will start game one for the Cubs against Jeff Karstens (2-2).

  1. Katelyn, do you have that same feeling you did in 2003 when Prior took the mound, only with Harden? I do. I go into each of Harden's starts knowing we will win and see a load of strikeouts.

    1. I have the exact same feeling. I think Harden was definitely a great pick up for the Cubs. He adds a fourth starter to the rotation that was already dominant. If Zambrano, Lilly, and Dempster can keep it up, the Cubs have a dominant rotation to go along with a great lineup, and a deep bullpen. I think that spells good news come September. Everyone has to stay healthy though.

  2. That's funny, Sam and Katelyn, because at first no one wanted to hear the comparisons between Harden and Prior for obvious reasons. But you are absolutely right, it's 2003 all over again instead it's Harden as opposed to Prior.

Good recap Katelyn and it's funny that Fukudome came up with a home run - apparently Lou had just talked to Kosuke about not trying to hit for a home run. They say you hit home runs when you're not trying, so maybe that's how he did it. Anyway, I don't know that one at-bat means much, but I'd be very happy if he could bounce back.

And finally, DeRosa has really turned the power on, hasn't he? Where has that come from? What an underrated player he is. Go Cubs.
