After two thrilling wins in San Francisco, the World Series shifted to Arlington, Texas, on Saturday night. The Rangers finally showed some signs of life and won game three in front of their home crowd. Tonight, the Rangers will look to even the series with Tommy Hunter on the mound. The Giants will send Madison Bumgarner to the bump and are seeking a commanding three games to one lead.
The big pregame news is Giants outfielder Pat Burrell isn't starting. Instead, Nate Schierholtz will start in his place.
Will Cliff Lee be able to send the series back to the Bay Area tomorrow night or will the Giants close out the baseball season in Arlington on Monday evening? A great game for the Giants, but the Rangers have a ton of soul searching to do over the next 20 hours.
The Giants are just one win, only 27 outs from a World Series title. Will we all see a repeat of 2002, or will San Francisco see their first baseball championship, and the first for the Giants franchise since 1954? Madison Bumgarner pitched an absolute gem tonight. Give as much credit to Buster Posey for this win as Bumgarner. Posey reminds me of a young Jason Varitek...he's simply a great leader and seems to will his team to wins.
The Giants take Game 4 and are now one win away from their first world title as the San Francisco Giants with a 4-0 victory over the Rangers tonight. Madison Bumgarner becomes the fourth youngest pitcher to win a World Series game, while the Rangers were shutout for only the second time at home this year.
Hamilton is down on strikes as well. What a quick, dominant inning for the Giants closer.
Wilson gets Young on a called third strike for out number two. The Rangers are down to their last out with Josh Hamilton at the plate.
Andrus sends one to right, but Schierholtz is able to haul it in for the first out of the ninth. Michael Young at the plate.
He starts Elvis Andrus with a strike.
Bumgarner is done for the night. Brian Wilson is on to close the game.
Torres hits one to Young at third and he sends it to second base for the force on Ishikawa to retire the side. Rangers are now down to their final three outs as we go to the bottom of the ninth.
Schierholtz flies out to Hamilton in center for the second out. Back to Andres Torres and the top of the order for the Giants.
Do you bring out Bumgarner for the ninth or call on Wilson for the last three outs? I say stick with Bumgarner.
Renteria is down on a called third strike.
Ishikawa works a leadoff walk and Renteria heads to the plate.
Derek Holland is on to pitch for the Rangers and will face Travis Ishikawa to start the inning.
Moreland looks at a called third strike. Bumgarner is masterful tonight. He's damn near perfect after eight innings. 4-0, Giants.
Molina sends one to left as well, but again, Ross makes the catch for the out. Two down for Mitch Moreland.
Francoeur launched one to left field but he was unable to put it in the stands. Ross makes the catch on the warning track for the first out of the game.
Bumgarner back on for the eighth with a bit more breathing room. Francoeur leads off for the Rangers.
Uribe suffers the same fate as Ross, a foul popout to Moreland. The Giants add a huge insurance run and now lead 4-0 as we head to the bottom of the eighth.
Ross pops out to Moreland in foul territory for the second out of the inning. Juan Uribe in the box.
And Posey finally comes through in a BIG way. In what looked like a routine fly ball, the ball kept carrying in center until it landed over the fence to give the Giants a 4-0 lead. That's the first career postseason homer for the young phenom.
That'll be all for Oliver. Darren O'Day is coming on to face Buster Posey.
Darren Oliver remains in the game for the Rangers and he gets Aubrey Huff to ground weakly to Moreland at first.
Still 3-0 after seven.
Bochy's confidence pays off. Kinsler flies out to Ross in left and Bumgarner is out of the jam.
