UFC veteran Gabriel Gonzaga (11-6 overall) has been released from his contract with the UFC following his loss to Brendan Schaub at UFC 121 this past weekend.

Gonzaga confirmed the news with a message on his official Twitter account.

"Official now - Out of UFC - Thanks for all your support - back to normal life and BJJ forever," said Gonzaga.

Gonzaga exits the UFC with an overall winning record in the organization at 7-5, but he had dropped his last two fights. The loss to Schaub followed a KO loss to now No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos in March.

Gonzaga started off his UFC career with a perfect 4-0 record that included a head kick knockout over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 70, which led to a title shot with then-champion Randy Couture at UFC 74. Gonzaga put up a valiant effort before losing via TKO in the third round.

Gonzaga's final UFC victory during this run came at UFC 102 in August 2009 with a TKO victory over Chris Tuchscherer.
