Mississippi State Football: A Realistic Preview of the Bulldogs' Upcoming Season
To be honest with you guys, I really was not planning on writing an article today. However, you guys will not believe this:
Jonathan Flippo, a recent high school graduate from Mississippi, wrote on a College Football forum on Facebook, that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would win the SEC West, and go 11-1 this season—with their only loss coming at LSU!
Of course, Flippo also predicted that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would be 4-0 heading into their showdown in Baton Rouge with the LSU Tigers. However, he would not stop there.
Moreover, Flippo added that he also believes that Mississippi State will CRUSH their first four opponents, which include Louisiana Tech, Auburn, and Georgia Tech.
After being asked whether he was being serious about all of this, Flippo responded by saying that he was VERY CONFIDENT that Mississippi State would CRUSH Louisiana Tech, Auburn, and Georgia Tech!
What's more is that Flippo also said that he was CONFIDENT that Mississippi State would WIN ALL THREE of their post-LSU road games—@ Tennessee, @ Alabama, and @ Mississippi.
Of course, Flippo tops this all off, by saying that he believes that Mississippi State will represent the SEC West in the SEC Championship Game—where he predicts the Georgia Bulldogs will beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs!
Obviously, this was NOT a realistic preview of the Bulldogs' season! That is why I am writing an article today. Unlike Flippo, I actually have a realistic preview of the Bulldogs' season. Here it is:
Aug. 30 @ Louisiana Tech – Week 1
In the battle of the Bulldogs, Derek Dooley’s upstart Louisiana Tech Bulldogs hold serve at home, to defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs. And NO, Louisiana Tech will NOT need overtime to win this game!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss
Mississippi State's record after this game: 0-1 overall
Sept. 6 vs. Southeastern Louisiana - Week 2
After losing to the upstart Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Mississippi State bounces back with an easy victory over Southeastern Louisiana, a terrible FCS team.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: 1-1 overall
Sept. 13 vs. Auburn - Week 3
Sophomore QB Wesley Carroll does just enough, to defeat Auburn for the second straight year—and the Bulldogs make up for the loss at Louisiana Tech!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (2-1 overall, 1-0 SEC)
Sept. 20 @ Georgia Tech - Week 4
A "sandwich" game, Mississippi State head coach Sly Croom keeps his team focused, and mentally prepared for this game. As a result, Mississippi State has very little trouble against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs head into their showdown against LSU, at Baton Rouge, with a 3-game winning streak.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (3-1 overall, 1-0 SEC)
Sept. 27 @ LSU - Week 5
There's no way that Mississippi State makes up 45 points in the span of just one year. Besides, this game is in Baton Rouge anyways! A NO-win situation for the Bulldogs!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss
Mississippi State's record after this game: (3-2 overall, 1-1 SEC)
(Bye week - Week 6)
Oct. 11 vs. Vanderbilt - Week 7
After a much-needed bye week, Mississippi State bounces back from their loss at LSU, and records an easy win at home, against Vanderbilt.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (4-2 overall, 2-1 SEC)
Oct. 18 @ Tennessee - Week 8
Sly Croom's Mississippi State Bulldogs put up a valiant fight against the Vols, on the road at Neyland Stadium. However, the Bulldogs come up just short of pulling off the upset.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss
Mississippi State's record after this game: (4-3 overall, 2-2 SEC)
Oct. 25 vs. Middle Tennessee State - Week 9
After coming off a heartbreaking loss at Tennessee, the Mississippi State Bulldogs bounce back with another easy out-of-conference victory, over Middle Tennessee, from the Sun Belt Conference.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (5-3 overall, 2-2 SEC)
Nov. 1 vs. Kentucky - Week 10
Mississippi State stays perfect at home, as the Bulldogs have very little trouble against the Kentucky Wildcats. With this win, Mississippi State becomes bowl eligible for the second straight season!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (6-3 overall, 3-2 SEC)
(Bye week - Week 11)
Nov. 15 @ Alabama - Week 12
No way Mississippi State beats Alabama in THREE consecutive years—and in consecutive even years on the road, at Tuscaloosa!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss
Mississippi State's record after this game: (6-4 overall, 3-3 SEC)
Nov. 22 vs. Arkansas - Week 13
Sly Croom will NOT allow his Mississippi State Bulldogs to LOSE AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to a SUCKY Arkansas team—UNLIKE what Les Miles and his LSU Tigers did, last season! As a result, Mississippi State completes a perfect 6-0 season at home!
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win
Mississippi State's record after this game: (7-4 overall, 4-3 SEC)
Nov. 28 @ Mississippi - Week 14
A Rebel Yell: The Rebels score MORE, MORE, MORE (than the Bulldogs)! As a result of this loss, the Mississippi State Bulldogs finish the season with 7-5 record, for the second straight year.
My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss
Mississippi State's regular season record: (7-5 overall, 4-4 SEC)
