We might as well start with the easiest one first, and let's be clear on one thing:If Nate Davis gets hurt, the Ball State football team is in a world of trouble. (Note. You can take the phrase "in a world of trouble" and replace it with an expletive of your choice.)

Neither of the two backups that have been on campus for more than two days, Tanner Justice and Perci Garner, have shown much of an ability to handle the offense. Both Garner and Justice struggled during the spring game, and sure, the spring game sometimes can be misleading, but it's all we have on them. Garner, it should be noted, was wide receiver Dan Ifft's quarterback at Dover High in Ohio.
I'd be surprised if Kelly Page wasn't the backup. Page was pretty dang good as a junior before banging up his knee his senior year of high school (which is how we got him in the first palce after de-commiting from Oregon).
Davis was nothing short of phenomenal last year (except for maybe the CMU game). He set BSU's single-season pass record with 3,667 passing yards, 478 attempts, 270 completions, 30 touchdowns (smashing Joey Lynch's record of 18) and threw for a career-high 422 yards against Nebraska. So um, yeah he's kind of good. He was also 15th in the nation in total offense and 27th in passing efficiency.
If Davis comes anywhere near Ben Roethlisberger's final year at Miami, Ball State could go 11-1, or, dare I say, 12-0.
