The quest for MLS recognition continues as FC Dallas announced that they would host Mexican club, Club America in a friendly.
The friendly will be hosted on September 7th at the Pizza Hut Park. The match is being sponsored by El Mexicano, so the match will be called "Copa El Mexicano" or the "El Mexicano Cup."
This will be Dallas's fifth international friendly of the year and third friendly against a top Latin American club. The first time FC Dallas faced a Mexican club was in February, when they lost to Tigres UANL 2-1 in Monterray, Mexico.
The second friendly saw FCD go away and defeat Brazillian club Atletico Paranaense 2-0 in March. They then beat the Brazilian club again at home, 2-1. The last time FC Dallas played a friendly, they lost to Chivas Guadalajara 2-1, in June.
This is the first time that FC Dallas captain and defender, Duilio Davino will face off against his former club since he left Club America in January 2008. He had played for Club America for 10 years.
In a press release he said: "Without a doubt I'm going to feel odd playing against America. One of the reasons that I no longer wanted to play in Mexico was so that I wouldn't have to face them. In saying that, I'm now with FC Dallas and we're playing them in a friendly, and we hope that it's a fun event for the public instead of a strong rivalry. It will be good to see many teammates and friends that I left there, and we'll try to make it a good game so that fans enjoy it and leave happy."
