Well readers and fellow writers: get ready to be very jealous of me.
Georges "Rush" St. Pierre will be in Ottawa, hosting two MMA seminars in early January.
As some of you may or may not know, I am a retired fighter who has been thinking of returning to the ring for some time now.
I can not tell you about the excitement level that I am feeling right now. For four hours, I will get to train with one of the best MMA fighters in the world.
Two hours of striking and two hours of grappling. I do teach my own style of mixed martial art, CanKiDo, and I am a firm believer that you can always learn more. So I am going in with an open mind, and hope to come away with some new exercises, drills, or some really cool submissions.
So right now I am going to be working my endurance to the best of my abilities. Last thing I want to do is to be totally gassed and unable to train at a high level.
Stay tuned to see how things go—until then keep your hands up and your chin down.
Derek

I'm not jealous that you're meeting Georges, but if I had a choice I'd rather meet his mother. I'm sure meeting her would be a lot less strenuous than what you will be doing, but as I am a mother and grandmother too, I'm sure there would be a lot for us to talk about.

I have completely changed my mind and will publicly humiliate myself by stating just how jealous I am of your opportunity. You will want to try to do an interview for Bleacher Report won't you? I mean, wow, a post Hughes fight interview; how great would that be? Of course I'd probably use the opportunity to ask if Georges had a pet growing up, likes dogs, has a girlfriend, has any new favorite movies, ever reads books, has ever seen or read Vision Quest, favors Quebec being all French speaking, what type of tree he would be (ala Barbra Walters), what famous person (living or dead) he would like to meet (and what he'd talk with them about), and the question that all the young folks are burning to know: boxers, briefs, or commando? My Lord, am I ever jealous of your wonderful opportunity to be in the presence of one of MMA's greatest legends! You are lucky man! I can not wait to read your follow-up article when you get back, for your sake record everything, okay?
