Why the Cubs Don't Need Brian Roberts

WTF!?!

Brian Roberts? Jesus christ, the last thing we need is another infielder...

I just saw a posting on a Cubs site saying that the team is interested in middle infielder Brian Roberts.

Don't get me wrong: Roberts is a fast, scrappy stud and all, but we already have two guys that are fast and scrappy (Theroit and Fontenot), one that is fast but has a touch of Shawon Dunston (Cedeno), DeRosa, and Eric Patterson.

We developed Theroit, and have developed Fontenot since obtaining him in the Cory Patterson deal. Eric Patterson is looking good and so is Ronny.

So why do I keep reading that the Cubs need a "left handed bat" in the lineup? Last time I checked, Pie batted left handed and Fuld batted left handed. Fuld just won the MVP in the Arizona winter league. What is wrong with letting them play?

You have Soriano playing LF and hitting 5th—put Pie in center and bat him 7th. Have Fuld in RF and leading off, Ramirez playing third and batting 4th, Lee at first and batting 3rd, Theroit/Fontenot playing short and batting 2nd, DeRosa playing second and batting 6th, and Soto batting 8th.

That gives a L, R/L, R, R, R, R, L, R order—which isn't that bad, and in addition balances speed (the one thing you can't teach in baseball).

And as for Prior: you offer him $3.5 mil this year and a club option if he pitches over 125 innings, wins at least ten games and smokes at least 75 hitters.

If he doesn't take it, ship that albatross off before December 12th. Give him to the Reds, because Dusty is the reason his arm is falling off.

Prior has always come off as a Southern Cal pretty boy who tries to remain stoic on the mound—but I think that blank expression is because he has as much personality as a sock full of cat vomit.

I am over the 03' season where he had 18 wins. I am over him having "training injuries," and I am over the 50+ simulated games he has thrown.

And as for the "Dempster into a starter" thing: that's just retarded. I would ship his Canadian ass off to whatever club wants him.

Use Z, Lilly, Marquis, Marshall, and Hart. We still have young arms in the farm system and Wood, Howry, or Marmol can close (I give it to Marmol).

LOL, that is all, I gotta do some work...
