Michigan State at Northwestern Live Blog: Can Sparty Avoid the Wildcat Trap?

Dave WalkerCorrespondent IOctober 23, 2010

Good Morning college football fans.

In one of the marquee early games, #7 Michigan State travels out of the state of Michigan for the first time to take on Northwestern on homecoming.

Here are some records, stats, and everything else to get you ready for the game.

Sparty leads the all time series 34-16, and is 16-10 in Evanston.

MSU has also won the last 2 games that were played in Evanston, which includes the 2006 game in which they came back from 35 down to beat the Wildcats.

With its #7 BCS record, MSU is at its highest ranking since the 1999 season where they ended at #9.

The Spartans have not been 7-0 since 1966, they have not won or shared the conference crown since 1990 and have not been to the Rose Bowl since 1987.

Northwestern QB Dan Persa is the nation's most efficient passer and also leads the team in rushing.

With a win, Northwestern will be bowl eligible for the 4th straight year. They have never made 3 consecutive bowl trips in their school history.

Weather could be a factor, as there is a chance of rain in Evanston. This could slow down the MSU run game and the Northwestern spread attack.
