First of all As a community leader of the new Bleacher Report poker section , I feel it is my duty to welcome everyone and invite you all to write articles , let's get this community up and running and maintain it at a level of other great B/R communities.

Phil " Poker Brat " Helmuth , The King Of Poker ?
Let's start our Poker community by talking about one of the true greats of World Poker , Phil "The Poker Brat" Helmuth , a menace at the table , in your face , and outspoken , Phil is now the most decorated player on the circuit just ahead of Jonny Chan and Doyle " Dolly " Brunson , you either hate him or you love him as a guy , but you can't hate his poker skills .
I've had the pleasure of watching Helmuth play many times , he is over dramatic admittedly , but I think that's part of the " in your face " game plan , to put you off your game . He is also very good at calling things before they happen
At the Party Poker late night event shown on UK TV , Helmuth picked up Ace , ten off suit against fierce rival on the TV poker circuit, Dave Devilfish Ulliott who had Queen , Jack of hearts , Devilfish in his usual bullying mood raised Helmuth 10K , Helmuth , who had been unlucky all night and fed up , raised All In 60K , Devilfish called .
Before the dealer turned the flop Helmuth muttered "Queen Ten Ten and I bet I still lose " , Unbelievable , the flop fell 10 Q 10 , but then Devilfish hit his Jack on the turn and Queen on the river and Phil's night was over , he may of been defeated but I was speechless by how he was calling card's before they came out .As annoying as he may be , he won my respect and attention instantly .
Phillip J.Helmuth Jr was born in Madison , Wisconsin on July 16th 1964 , He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for three years before quitting to be a full time poker player and now lives in Palo Alta , California with his wife Katherine and two sons Phillip and Nicholas. .
Phil is best known for his record of WSOP bracelets , His name of the Poker Brat and his scathing remarks about his opponents skills especially after a bad beat .
He has a mightily impressive and record breaking 11 World Series Of Poker bracelet's , he broke the record in the $1,500 No Limit Hold Em event in 2007 and he has finished in the money 69 times In World Series events and Won the main event in 1989 at just 24 years old , no one has won the main event at a younger age before or since Helmuth .
Phil has also embarrased himself a few times too , most notably was in 2007 when Helmuth's sponsor UltimateBet arranged for Phil to enter the 2007 WSOP main event in dramatic style in an UltimateBet race car escorted by 11 Models ( to represent each of his 11 bracelets ) , however Helmuth crashed the Race car into a pillar in the parking lot of the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
An embarrased Phil arrived by Limo two hours late for the opening of the main event , it caused big controversy as many believed the accident was staged , although Helmuth quashed these rumours instantly .
In 2008 at the WSOP event he decided to arrive in much safer fashion , dressing up in Military garb in a convoy as a promotion for the UB army .

He has a few books out called ; Play Poker Like the Pro's, Bad Beats , Lucky Draws , The Greatest Poker hands ever played and Poker Brat , He also released instructional poker videos on the market which only serves to add to his wealth through this big money game .
Helmuth is also amongst the very highest money winners in Poker , In WSOP he is rannked 6th all time highest money earner with $ 5.8 Million , On the WPT circuit Phil has won $814,869 , And in live televised tournaments Phil has a total of $ 10.6 Million and is ranked 3rd on the all time money list behind Joe Hachem and Jamie Gold .
Helmuth is no stranger to controversy , In the After Dark Poker Tournament Phil had been raised All In by Annie Duke and he was weighing up his decision , All the while Shawn Sheikan , Huck Seed , Gus Hansen and Steve Zolotow would not stop talking ,Annie Duke was the only person to remain silent throughout.
Helmuth burst into one of his temper tantrums and accused the others of Disrespecting him and pleaded with the adjudicator to impose a penalty , when he would'nt Helmuth left and threatened to never play in this tournament again , he eventually returned only to be eliminated three hands later .
Phil Helmuth has recently taken up commentating on poker events , in 2006 he replaced Phil Gordon as commentator on Celebrity Poker Showdown and he also regularly joins Jessie May on Channel 5 Poker in the UK , and he is just as controversial at commentating as he is at playing poker .
One of the greatest players in history of Poker , one of the most controversial and I certainly look for his name whenever I watch anything Texas Hold-Em , let's hope he can keep putting on shows and winning bracelets for years to come but most of all I want him to keep getting under his opponents skin , It's amazing to watch .
