According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, Heat forward Mike Miller suffered a potentially serious thumb injury during Wednesday’s practice on his shooting hand.

He is not with the team for tonight’s preseason matchup with Atlanta and will see a hand specialist later today. Miller also sprained an ankle in Monday’s preseason loss against Charlotte, although it was only a minor injury.

If Miller were to miss any kind of extended time, it would be a huge dagger to a team that needs shooters to space the floor and give Dwyane Wade and LeBron James room to operate.

James Jones and Eddie House would have to step up and knock down shots from the perimeter.

The Heat open regular season play on Tuesday at TD Garden against the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics.
