Sunderland were fighting for their Premier League status last season, fortunately for Roy Keane's men they escaped relegation as Derby County, Reading and Birmingham took the drop.
However, 'Keano' is quite concerned as the season has gotten underway with a 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light to Liverpool and the Black Cats boss is looking to buy as many players as he can to evade the drop.
- B/R Ticket Guide
El Hadji Diouf, Teemu Tainio, Pascal Chimbonda, David Meyler, Steed Malbranque and Nick Colgan have already signed for the Black Cats, who are very close to wrapping up deals for Anton Ferdinand, Micheal Ball, Djibril Cisse, David Healy and even the likes of Louis Saha and Benni McCarthy have been linked with club.
Do you reckon it's the right way to battle relegation or should a club look at what they have and try to make a strong combination?

I wouldn't say that there is a right or wrong was to survive in the Premier League. the main thing is to ensure that you survive. Keane has got good financial backing at Sunderland, and not take advantage of it would be foolish.

the Players at the club at the end of Roy's first season as manager got us promoted... he then brought new players in to keep us in the premiership... he is now buying players to move us on to the next step, which is mid-table safety. By buying players with premiership experience, he is getting players who can achieve this.
our sqaud was paper thin last season and he is addressing this. Every team will have injuries or suspensions during the season (Jones being out is a big loss to us). So you need a squad that can cope with this.
We (Sunderland) are playing catch up on most of the premiership… our club has been mismanaged for a few years now.
We trust on Keane and Quinn.

It will be interesting to see how this seasons squad gels. I thought that chimbonda, malbranque and tiainio all showed great commitment and versatility whilst they were at spurs. If they fit in well, they should help sunderland to consolidate a mid table finish. Keane does seem to have made a good start to his manergerial career, and as kevin rightly pointed out, is making gradual improvements to the squad. This definatelt boads well for the future, as does the support he has from the board.

If Chelsea can buy the title with bringing in top quality for overpriced salaries, then why not. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing Sunderland become a regular EPL squad.

good call mate, ain't that the truth. the only way that clubs eventually establish themselves as teams that are in the league year in and year out is through waving the old cheuqe-book a bit. and with the biggest waves coming from the strongest teams, it is obvious that if the money is available managers spend it to strengthen or perish, it is the nature of the beast that is top flight football around the world. Either you conform to the demands of this beast or you are ripped apart in its jaws.

It's quite a decent team now.. Keane is getting some support from the owners which is good for him and S'land.. I doubt that they'll go down.

Sunderland has drastically improved and isn't the only way to do that in the short term to buy players? Sunderland probably should have gotten a draw out of the Liverpool game but as they add more and more quality players their skill will slowly begin to equal their desire.

Sunderland can do well this season, with the new signings they've made. We could see quite a few goals go in for Sunderland this season, with the signings of Healy and Cisse. I reckon they'll survive in the Premier League, mid-table finish I reckon they'll get.
