It is a nightmare situation that is only going to get worse.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, citing two sources, Manchester United finds itself with no choice but to sell Wayne Rooney to Manchester City.

That thought of such a transfer would not signify a major blow to United, but more importantly the transfer might signal the shift of power away to the Eastlands.

City is on the rise, thanks again to the illustrious signings of Tevez, Belotelli and Barry. With Wayne Rooney in the mix, Manchester City can make a case to be the next football power out of England, but more importantly, as a competitor for European honors.

Sir Alex Ferguson is probably turning in his bed as we speak and not a single football fan would feel unsympathetic for the Scot.

Sir Alex now finds himself in a situation where he must rebuild the club, in more ways than one. Players such as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Edwin Van Der Saar would have to be replaced and that means Sir Alex launching an audacious signing spree to fill voids.

So much so for City, who now has the most exciting football teams to behold and most would agree that City has the best chance of overtaking Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea as the main power in the Premiership.
