Goalie Scores Video: Will Hesmer Scores Big Goal For Columbus Crew
Here’s something that you don’t see every day: a goalie scoring a goal in a soccer game.
Will Hesmer goaltender for the Columbus Crew left his post on the other end of the field to help on the offensive end during stoppage time, with his team down 2-1, to the Toronto FC.
After a corner kick, the ball bounced over to Hesmer who gained control of the ball at the front of the net and promptly kicked it in for a goal.
"I really didn't know what I was doing. Luckily, it went in,” Hesmer said to the Columbus Dispatch.
The game ended tied 2-2.
It wasn’t the first time it has happened in the league, Hesmer became only the second goalkeeper in MLS history to score a goal. New York Redbulls goalkeeper Danny Cepero was the first to accomplish such as feat with an 81 yard kick that went in for a score
