Elton Brand and Converse Give Back To Local Philly Kids
Elton Brand throws up the tip during a pick up game at the Converse Open Gym Philly Event.

On October 16th, in Philadelphia, Elton Brand gave back to the community.

The exclusive event took place at Girard college in Philadelphia. Elton Brand and Converse are slated to introduce Elton's third shoe, the EB3. The kids who attended the event were kids who frequently attended the Open Gym Philly over the last year.

Converse has hosted the Open Gym since 2007 for thousands of youths. It is free and open to the public.

The age group of the kids ranged from 12-18 and there were over 150 kids in attendance. The kids were lucky enough to get to participate in Converse's special event where they got to play a little basketball, receive Converse gear and even meet Elton Brand himself.

Elton Brand handed out his signature shoe as he spoke with the kids in attendance. Elton also took to the court as a monitor of sorts, going around to all the children as they played. He also thanked every child personally for coming out to the event.

The EB3 is Elton's third shoe with Converse. It is being advertised as an affordable alternative as it retails for $65 in adult sizes and $50 dollars for kids. Converse has chosen to partner with JCPenney and the shoe is currently available exclusively at JCPenney's across the country.

Examples like these show the type of character that a player like Elton has. Of course, some critics have had some unsavory opinions about him since his signing with the Sixers, but no one can say that he is not a good guy, and this is just one example of that.
