When revelations about Wayne Rooney's private life initially hit front pages of the British tabloid press, few fans of any club would have thought the situation was going to escalate to the point where Rooney was looking for a new club.

Rooney is a man who clearly wants to be playing in a team in which he is respected and considered irreplaceable. However, revelations from club manager Sir Alex Ferguson today have confirmed that the striker no longer wishes to stay a Manchester United player.

Despite the fact that he was clearly the top man last season at United, Rooney has recently found himself playing more for his country than his club, despite the terrible form United have been in by their very high standards.

Although it is hard to imagine a club where Rooney would be more at home than Manchester United, it is undeniable that there will be many suitors keen to see the superstar join their team. The football transfer rumours suggest local rivals Manchester City are likely to be at the head of the queue having already taken Rooney's former strike partner Carlos Tevez to the blue half of Manchester.

Given the level of support that United have given Rooney, combined with the fact that he once announced that this was his club for life, speculation is likely to continue as to what has caused Rooney to undergo a huge change of heart and announce his desire to leave the Old Trafford outfit. The Betfair Football rumour mill is now working overtime.

Should Rooney decide not to change his mind regarding the current situation, it seems that he will be almost certain to leave the club in the January transfer window.
