Liverpool FC have been boosted this morning with the news that long serving defender Jamie Carragher has put pen to paper on a 2yr extension to his current Anfield deal.
The club commented on their official site:
“Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce that Jamie Carragher has signed a two year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until June 2013.”
The Reds vice captain has been a key fixture in the side since making his debut back in January 1997 and currently ranks sixth in the club’s all-time list of appearances having donned the famous shirt on no fewer than 641 occasions.
The No. 23 enjoyed a testimonial against Everton earlier this year and is now in the midst of his 15th season with the club.
He has won no fewer than 10 major honours with the Reds, including two FA Cups, two League Cups, a UEFA Cup and the Champions League.”
The news will be greeted warmly by Liverpool fans, at a time when the club is searching for stability both on and off the pitch. Carragher, as a local lad and with his well known commitment to the club, has been widely touted as a more than suitable candidate for joining the coaching staff at Liverpool when the day finally comes that he hangs up his boots.
