OK, let's face it: Steve Nash and Shaquille O'Neal don't have much more time in the NBA.

Nash is still a somewhat solid player, but is beginning to decline, and Shaq just isn't what he used to be in the paint. As both players near the end of their respective careers in the NBA, Suns fans are starting to wonder who will succeed them, and when.

Phoenix has other solid players in its lineup (Boris Diaw, Leandro Barbosa, Raja Bell, Grant Hill, Amare Stoudemire, DJ Strawberry), but Nash and O'Neal are crucial parts of the Suns' offense, and will be hard to replace when they retire.

It seems GM Steve Kerr and coach Terry Porter's best hope is to get a good spot in the draft.

you're right about Shaq and Nash, but i also wouldn't depend too much on grant hill. he's made of glass, and he's at the same stage of his career as shaq and nash, although hill is more productive than shaq.

I think Nash deserves more credit than a "somewhat solid" player. His numbers were fantastic again last year (17 ppg, 11 apg, excellent percentages) and he's not too far removed from two MVP awards.

The Suns have a pretty bright future. Stoudemire, Barbosa, Diaw, Lopez and Dragic form a nice group to build around. Matt Barnes is pretty young too. Also, Nash's and Shaq's contracts expire in the summer of 2010, where the Suns can resign Stoudeimre and possibly add LeBron, Kobe, DWade, AI, or Chris Bosh, among others.

I don't like him either, and I doubt Suns fans will want him in Phoenix, but of course he'd be a great addition. Otherwise, the Suns can go for some of those other guys.

i think your right but if you look at nash's career he's only gotten better with age and i'm not talking about from when he was drafted to his first three years in the leauge i'm talking about his all around numbers as he's gotten older his passing has become better and he hits a higher percentage of shots. nash will have to not turn the ball over so much and get on the same page as shaq and stoudamire and i think that the suns will be a very dangours team. now shaq thats another thing i think that the suns should play some kind of a zone that has four guys on defense when shaq is on the floor so that he doesn't get tired. just kiding but seoirsly he needs to get into better shape and even thoe he's really old he will have an all star year. Stoudemire should have a big year because if they double shaq amarie should be able to get a pass a score on one guy or kick it out to there perimiter game. so good article
