The New York Jets persevered and were able to beat the Denver Broncos on the road with a final score of 24-20.
Despite being outplayed in terms of total yardage, the Jets were able to capitalize on scoring opportunities and somehow found a way to win this one.
Kyle Orton, whom I consider to be one of the most underrated players in the NFL today, struggled a bit against the aggressive Jets defense as he was limited to only 209 yards passing on 41% completion.
Interestingly enough, Jabar Gaffney was once again a solid contributor as he hauled in six receptions for 81 yards which keeps him at pace to finish with over 1,000 yards receiving.
This victory gives the Jets a five-game winning streak heading into the bye. They're certainly looking like legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

The San Francisco 49ers pulled out their first win of the season today, as they beat the Oakland Raiders in the Battle of the Bay with a final score of 17-9.
It certainly wasn't the cleanest game of the year, as the 49ers committed 11 penalties for 143 yards. Nonetheless, a win is a win.
Alex Smith did a nice job as he threw a pair of touchdowns, and Frank Gore amassed 149 yards on the ground.
Moreover, Michael Crabtree once again proved why the Oakland Raiders made a mistake by passing on him in last year's draft as he registered 57 yards and a touchdown in comparison to Darius Heyward-Bey's 19 yards.
Of course, the defining factor in the game was Jason Campbell's pathetic 10.6 passer rating (no, that's not a typo). By shutting down the pass, the 49ers made the Raiders one-dimensional and won the game as a result.
All in all, this was a solid performance and hopefully it'll push them back into the NFC West race.

The Minnesota Vikings may have just saved their season as they beat the Dallas Cowboys 24-21 today in what many referred to as the Panic Bowl.
While it definitely wasn't their best effort, they found a way a way to win.
Brett Favre threw a touchdown and posted a 106.9 passer rating, Adrian Peterson scored on a 1 yard run, and Percy Harvin made the highlight of the game with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
That, along with a decent outing from their defensive unit gave them their second victory of the season which may just be enough to propel them back into the playoff hunt.
On the flip side, while it's not impossible, the Dallas Cowboys will have a very difficult time to make the playoffs, now that they're stuck in a 1-4 hole.

Dez Bryant scores his first official recieiving touchdown of his career as he hauled in a 31-yard strike from quarterback Tony Romo.
The rookie wideout has already made 17 receptions for 180 yards this season, and has also scored on a 62-yard punt return.
Bryant was taken with the No. 24 overall pick of this year's draft, and was expected to become yet another weapon for Romo's arsenal.
His career has been promising so far, but it's yet to be seen if he can truly develop into a legitimate No. 1 target.
Meanwhile, players such as Miles Austin, Roy Williams, and Jason Witten will allow him the time to make the transition.
The Cowboys currently trail the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 with 4:01 remaining in the 4th quarter.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers fired their head coach Tim Brewster after a 1-6 start, and have yet to fill the vacancy.
According to reports, Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi contacted Tony Dungy asking him to return to the sidelines to coach his alma matar.
As expected, he responded with a clear decline.
Dungy attended the university before taking his talents to the NFL where he won a Super Bowl as a player for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Of course, most of us are more familiar with his coaching career in which he led the Indianapolis Colts to a victory in Super Bowl XLI.
Dungy's first coaching stint was as a defensive backs coach for the Golden Gophers, before he bolted for the NFL in the ensuing season.
In my opinion, it was worth a shot to bring him in as part of their efforts to resurrect the program.
Maturi explained that even though Dungy didn't want to get back into coaching, he was willing to offer help to the school to find a replacement. Moreover, Maturi stated that while he will ask Dungy and his prominent alumni for support, the choice will ultimately be his.

The Oakland Raiders headed to the other side of the Bay to take on the San Francisco 49ers today in a much-anticipated Battle of the Bay matchup.
Unfortunately, the latest edition of the heated rivalry has been nothing more than a pathetic, unbearable game so far.
Aside from an impressive 32-yard touchdown strike from Alex Smith to Michael Crabtree, this has been a game that's consisted of inefficient offense, a lack of discipline, and virtually no reason to watch.
The Raiders have under 150 yards of total offense, both teams are averaging under 4.0 yards per carry, and the 49ers have committed ten penalties for 133 yards.
Even worse, quarterback Jason Campbell has a pathetic quarterback rating of 14.6.
Frankly, a game doesn't get much worse than that.
In fact, the only bright spot has been that both teams' kicking games have been solid.
That said, it just goes to show how poor both Bay Area football teams have been and that they show no signs of turning their fortunes around anytime soon.

Tim Tebow has scored his first official NFL touchdown today for the Denver Broncos, as he rushed five yards into the endzone to knot up their game against the New York Jets at 7-7 with 11:18 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Tebow took the snap, went right and turned the corner on his way for the score.
Since he hasn't stepped on the field since Week 1 of the season, many have speculated when and if head coach Josh McDaniels would put him in.
After drafting him with the No. 25 overall pick of this year's draft, many projected McDaniels to utilize Tebow in specialized packages in which his unique skill set would be given an opportunity to flourish.
Today, he did exactly that and it paid off with big dividends.
This play is certainly a big step in the right direction in regards to proving his doubters wrong.

Percy Harvin scored a touchdown on a 95-yard kickoff return, and knotted the Vikings up at 14 in today's game against the Cowboys.
Harvin, the team's 1st round draft choice last year, bursted onto the scene as a rookie last year as he registered 8 total touchdowns (6 receiving, 2 returns) and was voted the recipient of the Rookie Offensive Player of the Year award.
This season, he hasn't missed a beat as he's already racked up three receiving touchdowns in addition to the incredible kickoff return today.
He's certainly a dynamic talent, and his only true weakness are his migraine concerns. When healthy, he's one of the most electrifying playmakers in the game today, and forces defenses to gameplan against him.
The Vikings need all of their players to step up today as they hope to turn their season around with a win in the Panic Bowl today.
You may view a video of the play here.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams has stepped up big once again and hauled in two touchdown receptions in just the first half of their game against the Vikings.
Williams has been a pleasant surprise so far this season, as this makes it his fifth touchdown grab in the past three games.
The former 1st round draft choice was widely being considered a major bust, especially after the hefty price the 'Boys paid to acquire him from the Detroit Lions.
In his first season he only managed to register 197 receiveing yards and followed it up with a modest 596 last year.
That being the case, it prompted the Cowboys to make the move to draft Dez Bryant with their first round pick this year, thus giving them a formidable trio at wideout.
Interestingly enough, Williams has been the team's touchdown leader and continues to resurrect his career.
It'll be interesting to see if he can keep it up as the season progresses.

The Houston Texans may have beat the Kansas City Chiefs today with a 35-31 victory down to the wire, but they also suffered a tremendous loss.
After the game, head coach Gary Kubiak announced that star middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles' tendon.
This is a devastating loss for the unit, especially because they've already exposed several weaknesses and are clearly amongst the league's worst.
Ryans has 47 tackles on the season along with one sack, and the injury will end his streak of 69 consecutive starts and force him to miss his first action of his NFL career.
The 2-time Pro Bowler has quickly established himself as one of the premier players at his position ever since he entered the league, earning the NFL Rookie of the Year honors and following it up by being named an All-Pro the following season.
The Texans will need to find some way to replace his services, and will need to do so quickly. Don't be surprised to see them make a move to trade for a linebacker before the trading deadline (Oct. 19)

Tim Tebow has scored his first official NFL touchdown today for the Denver Broncos, as he rushed five yards into the endzone to knot up their game against the New York Jets at 7-7 with 11:18 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Tebow hasn't played since Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season when he only rushed for 2 yards on 2 carries.
Many projected head coach Josh McDaniels to use Tebow in select packages, and today that's been the case. As the game progresses, it'll be interesting to see how they decide to utilize his unique skill set.
The former Gator star was drafted with the No. 25 overall pick in this year's draft, and many questioned the Broncos decision to do so.
His shaky mechanics were a big red flag and scouts warned NFL teams that he would not make a fluid transition into the NFL.
However, today, he certainly made a big step in the right direction in regards to proving his doubters wrong.
