Game One of the NLCS featuring the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies is set to begin in less than an hour. Tim Lincecum will lead the Giants against Roy Halladay and the Phillies in one of the most anticipated games in recent Playoff memory.
The Phillies enter the series as the prohibited favorite, but anyone underestimating the Giants and their pitching staff is making a mistake. Even with Halladay throwing only the second no-hitter in postseason history in the NLDS, the Giants starting staff was every bit as dominant as the Phillies' staff.
The Giants may still be the underdog to win the series, but the Phillies will have to show some real heart to pull out the series. Timely hitting, good defense, and great pitching is awfully hard to beat. The Giants are a legitimate threat now to make it to the World Series.
Great performances by Lincecum, Cody Ross, and Wilson to record a four-out save. The Giants take a 1-0 series lead and will send Jonathan Sanchez to the mound tomorrow night against Roy Oswalt.
Wilson gets Victorino to strike out and end the game. The Giants take Game One, 4-3.
Victorino is the Phillies last hope. Ruiz is being lifted for a pinch runner.
Gload goes down swinging on strike three. The Giants are one out away from taking the lead in the series.
Ross Gload is pinch-hitting for Lidge.
Ruiz gets plunked by a pitch and the Phillies have the tying run on first.
Wilson gets Ibanez looking on a called third strike. One down with Carlos Ruiz coming up.
Raul Ibanez is leading off the bottom of the ninth for the Phils.
Sanchez is unable to convert, and he flies out to Victorino for the final out of the inning. The Giants leave the bases loaded, but Wilson is coming out for his second inning of work with a 4-3 lead.
Lidge throws nothing but sliders to Torres, and he can't hold up on the third one. Two down with the bases loaded for Freddy Sanchez.
Lidge hits Ishikawa on the back foot to load the bases for Torres. The Giants could really use one or two more insurance runs.
Ross draws a walk and now the Giants have two on with one out. Ishikawa is making his first plate appearance of the night.
Fontenot gets into scoring position as he steals second.
Fontenot is up next and he dumps the ball into shallow center for a hit. Cody Ross coming to the plate with one on and one out.
He's quickly down on strikes for the first out of the inning.
Juan Uribe is leading off the ninth with Brad Lidge now pitching for the Phils.
Wilson gets Rollins to swing at what looked like ball four. The Phils strand Werth at first and we're going to the top of the ninth with the Giants still leading, 4-3.
Werth dumps a 2-0 pitch into center. That brings up Jimmy Rollins with a runner on first and two outs.
Wilson will face Jayson Werth.
Travis Ishikawa is in at first on the double-switch.
Howard is down on strikes and the Phils two best hitters are out. That'll be all for Lopez. He more than did his job for the night. Brian Wilson coming in for a four-out save.
Utley grounds to Sanchez at second and there is one out. Howard heading to the plate.
Utley is leading off and quickly has two strikes.
Great job tonight by Lincecum. He gave up only 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings while striking out 8.
