Busy, busy Saturday on tap today. Loads of college football ahead of the first BCS Rankings, which will be released tomorrow.
The Brett Favre saga apparently won't die, though I'm sure he would love for it to. Pretty big game tomorrow for Favre and his Minnesota Vikings against another potential disaster in the Dallas Cowboys.
Both teams are struggling with 1-3 records and need to win to keep their seasons off life support. Plus, Favre has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his right elbow and listed as questionable. Will his consecutive games streak remain intact? Um, count on it.
After New York's dramatic come-from-behind win in Game 1 last night, how will the Texas Rangers respond today? Do they have anything left after what had to be a deflating loss?
Also today, we have Game 1 of the NLDS between Philadelphia and San Francisco. Roy Halladay vs. Tim Lincecum. First team to three runs wins in a pretty stout pitching matchup.
And then we have UFC 120 from England. Not available on pay-per-view, apparently, but will air later tonight on Spike TV. Go figure.
Keep it here as we update all the significant news of what I'm sure will be a busy day in sports.
The late NASCAR driver Tim Richmond will be the latest subject of ESPN's 30 for 30 series Tuesday night.
In a documentary titled "To the Limit", Richmond's life--and death--will be chronicled. While it has never been confirmed, it is widely known that Richmond died because of AIDS in 1989 at the age of 34.
He was known for his aggressive driving on the track and his hard living off of it, which ultimately caught up to him.
Richmond had his best season in 1986, when he won seven races and finished third in the Winston Cup points race.
But he became ill soon after and left racing at the start of the 1987 season, only to return a few months later to win at Pocono.
He completely withdrew from racing in 1998 and lived his final days as a recluse.
It may be all over but the shouting in Madison.
Wisconsin answered an Ohio State touchdown in the fourth quarter with a flurry, when James White scored on a 12-yard run to take a 28-18 lead.
On its next possession, Wisconsin kicked a 41-yard field goal.
Ohio State is down to the final 2:30.
Eugene, Oregon is going crazy.
No. 1 Ohio State is fighting its way back against Wisconsin, scoring 18 straight points to cut its deficit to 21-18 in the fourth quarter.
Dan Herron just scored on a 1-yard run--his second rushing touchdown of the game--and Terrelle Pryor connected with Reid Fragel for a two-point conversion.
Wisconsin is on the move, with the clock ticking down just under 10 minutes.
Cody Ross, the No. 8 hitter in the San Francisco Giants lineup, has tagged Roy Halladay for a pair of solo home runs and the Giants lead 2-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth inning of Game 1 of the NLCS.
Carlos Ruiz, who is the No. 8 hitter and catcher for the Phillies, added a solo home run of his own for the only run so far for Philadelphia.
Tim Lincecum has allowed four hits and struck out four through five innings.
Halladay has struck out six while surrendering four hits.
Don't look now, but the No. 1 team in the land could go down to defeat for the second straight week.
Perfect timing, considering the first BCS rankings will be released Sunday night.
Wisconsin jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half, but Ohio State has battled back to cut the deficit to 21-10 early in the third quarter.
John Clay has two rushing touchdowns for the Badgers, who also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
Wisconsin has largely held Terrelle Pryor in check, holding him to 60 yards passing and 40 yards rushing.
The Texas Rangers picked up their first ever postseason win at home, defeating the New York Yankees 7-2 in Game 2 of the ALCS.
David Murphy homered and had an RBI double to back a solid outing from starting pitcher Colby Lewis and five Rangers relievers, who gave up no runs in the final 3.1 innings.
Elvis Andrus stole home in the first inning to give Texas a lead it would never relinquish.
Game 3 is set for Monday night in New York.
Shaping up to be a pretty memorable weekend for rookie quarterback Colt McCoy of the Cleveland Browns.
McCoy will have his jersey retired during the Texas-Baylor game Saturday, and then make his first start in the NFL Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Not too many folks give McCoy and his Browns much of a chance against the fierce defense of the Steelers Sunday, so this may be a "It was the best of times, it was the worse of times" kind of weekend.
It will be quite emotional for McCoy Saturday, and could be quite painful for him Sunday.
Jump on the bandwagon, sports fans. Cam Newton had a Heisman-worthy performance today against Arkansas.
Newton rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns, passed for 140 yards and another score as unbeaten Auburn ran away from Arkansas for a 65-43 SEC win.
Newton, who transferred to Auburn from Florida following an incident with a stolen computer, has out up solid numbers all season. His showdown today with Ryan Mallett, another serious Heisman contender, put him on the national stage.
Incidentally, Mallett left the game after suffering a blow to his head and was believed to have a concussion.
Does Newton's performance propel him to the top of the Heisman hopeful list?
Some three million Cablevision subscribers in Philadelphia and New York might not be able to watch Game 1 of the NLCS tonight because after Fox pulled its channels off Cablevision because of a contract dispute.
I'm sure there are plenty of screaming Phillies fans right now that aren't too happy if this remains in effect without a deal getting done.
It should be a great start to the series, with Roy Halladay facing off with Tim Lincecum in what should be a great pitchers duel.
WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko will take on former champion Shannon Briggs tonight in Hamburg, Germany.
Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO's) is heavily favored in the fight against Briggs (51-5-1, 41 KO's).
Briggs is much quicker and may be much hungrier to get his title back.
The fight will be streamed live on ESPN3.com
The co-headlining event of UFC 120 in England between Carlos Condit and Dan Hardy is now official, and it's not good news for Hardy.
Hardy was knocked out by Condit at 4:27 in the first round with a big left hook that connected and sent Hardy to the mat.
It's the second straight loss for Hardy and the third straight win for Condit.
Ryan Mallett was forced to leave the Arkansas-Auburn game today after getting a blow to his head, according to Coach Bobby Petrino.
Mallett went to the locker room after leading the Razorbacks to a touchdown that resulted in a 14-10 lead.
Auburn scored two straight touchdowns to take the lead back once Mallett left the game.
Mallett, one of a handful of Heisman Trophy hopefuls, is averaging over 350 yards in the air per game.
He is not expected to return.
David Murphy already has a solo home run, and he added a RBI double in the third inning and the Texas Rangers have jumped ahead 5-0 against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the ALCS.
Michael Young also had an RBI double in the second inning, and Benji Molina added an RBI double in a two-run third inning.
Yankee starter Phil Hughes has been roughed up in three innings pitched, allowing eight hits with two walks. All five of his runs have been earned.
It just won't go away for Brett Favre.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today that Brett Favre will meet with a league official on Tuesday regarding the alleged lewd text messages sent to a former sideline reporter for the New York Jets.
Jenn Sterger worked for the New York Jets in 2008, the only year Favre played for the team, and is at the center of the investigation after voice mails of a man said to be Favre were revealed. There have also been inappropriate pictures that have been making the rounds that are supposedly of Favre's junk.
Favre has not commented on the matter publicly, and is also battling elbow tendinitis as Minnesota prepares to take on Dallas tomorrow.
Ryan Mallett was forced to leave the Arkansas-Auburn game with an undisclosed injury.
Initial reports are saying that it is a knee injury and Mallett is being looked at in the locker room.
Mallett is considered one of the front-runners for the Heisman Trophy. Arkansas is trailing Auburn 24-14 in the second quarter in an SEC clash.
