Omar Minaya...I Am Warning You!!

Ben RiversAug 19, 2008

Omar...you've got skills. No one can deny that. You've made this Mets team competitive. In fact, it only took a season or two for you to drastically improve the Metropolitans. With more luck, your 2006 version of the Mets probably should have won the World Series and we'd all be kissing your feet.

However, they didn't, and you got trigger happy.

HANDS OFF THE TRIGGER, OMAR!

Now, you seem to have learned your lesson, preferring to hold on to prospects and build your team through homegrown talent. But if you trade away any of the youngin's we've got playing in the bigs right now, it will hurt this team...so I'm warning you, Omar!

Your biggest downfall has always been your inability to just sit on your hands and do nothing. Sometimes doing nothing gets you the biggest return. You managed to rest your weight on your fingers this past trading deadline, now keep it up this winter.

This team looks like it is in a great position for the coming years, with solid, if not spectacular, rookie performances from Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans, Argenis Reyes, Carlos Muniz, Willie Collazo, and Eddie Kunz.

Not to mention big-time prospects who have yet to make their major-league debut in Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, and maybe even Mike Carp. Every one of these guys appears to be able to help the Mets next year, and every one of them should stay with the Mets next year.

For those who aren't keeping track, that is:

2 Starting Pitchers

3 Relief Pitchers

1.5 Second Basemen

2.5 Outfielders

1.5 First Basemen

For a team that might lose a couple starting pitchers, a first baseman, and needs to lose a second baseman and some relievers, these guys could be very valuable to the '09 edition of the New York Metropolitans.

Omar...I'm warning you...I'm begging you!! Please keep our homegrown talent, and let's win a homegrown World Series. Money just doesn't buy you happiness.
