Arsenal Want Respect For Emmanuel Adebayor: But Why?

Andrew McNairAug 19, 2008

I couldn't believe what I was reading this morning, when I came across Arsene Wenger's comments about Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Arsenal manager wants the home fans to get off the Togolese striker's back, but why should they?

Adebayor was top scorer at the Emirates last season, but seemed to grow a second head over the summer when he decided he'd leave the Gunners.

Let's start with the fact Adebayor had never scored more than 12 goals in a season before last year, and was no world class player when Arsene Wenger signed him. Let's face it, Wenger made him into the player he is today.

If I were Adebayor, I'd be quite nervous about this coming season—he's got a lot to live up to.

Not him though, as the 24 year old believes he is far too good for the Emirates, and should be playing for AC Milan or Barcelona.

I'll tell you now that he won't score 30 goals again this season!

Arsenal fans watched Mathieu Flamini and Alexandr Hleb firing parting shots as they walked out on Arsenal—and that was bad enough.

But to have Adebayor sitting there, blowing his own trumpet to the world's elite, just made me sick—and I'm not even an Arsenal fan!

I really hope they didn't get an offer anywhere near £25m, as it would have been a lottery win as far as I'm concerned.

So how does Mr Adebayor get punished for his public disloyalty? Well a new bumper contract of course. Ridiculous!

As a Rangers fan, I don't want anyone on that park who doesn't want to be in a Rangers shirt, and especially not if he think's he's too good for it!

Adebayor was useless against West Brom on the opening day, and couldn't find a way through a Championship defence.

He didn't really look like he wanted too.

Last year he scored 6 goals against Derby County's Championship defence, and that made him a £25 million pound player apparently, so I hope he has better luck against Stoke and Hull.

So Mr Wenger tell me why I should respect him?

What about the Arsenal fans? Will you forgive and forget?
