Cliff Lee pitches Rangers to ALCS with another gem
When the Texas Rangers traded for Cliff Lee this year they knew exactly why they wanted him. It was for nights like tonight where Lee went the distance allowing only six hits and one run without giving-up a walk to the Rays in a 3-1 victory for the Rangers. We all knew here in Seattle what Lee was capable of as he pitched several games for the Mariners this year with the same results as tonight’s, though none of them meant as much to a franchise as this performance did by the classy lefty.
While it is easy to talk smack about the state of Texas, the actual players on this tight-knit team come from all parts of the country so perhaps we should try to separate our feelings with the state of Texas with this great team. Besides as a group they have accomplished what no other team from this franchise dating back 50 years to the old Washington team that was moved to Texas. Yes indeed cowboys and girls the Texas Rangers have finally won a postseason series and I tip my hat to them, especially in light of their respectful way of including Josh Hamilton who is a recovering alcoholic by using ginger ale for the first part of their post-game celebration tonight. Now they have to get by the New York Yankees in a classic North-South battle between two parts of the country that bare little resemblance to each other but are united by the great game we call Baseball!
So there we have it folks the first round of the postseason is over and it can only get better from here as the underdog Giants try to de-throne the reigning NL Champs the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Rangers try to somehow get past the Yankees. Call me crazy but I am picking the Giants and Yankees to be in the big dance this year. I hope you are having as much fun as I am with the postseason as it sure beats speculating on who will be the Mariners new manager! http://jeffsmariners.com
