Kansas State Wildcats at Kansas Jayhawks

Line: Kansas State -2.5
This battle of in state Big 12 rivals sure looks to be a good one. Both teams are coming off tough losses. Kansas State hosted ranked Nebraska last week and lost 48-13. Kansas had an extra week to digest a 55-7 loss at Baylor. Kansas State is 2-3 on the season while boasting an 0-1 record in the Big-12. The Wildcats have a 4-1 record with a 1-1 record in the Big-12. This will be the first road game for this Kansas State team coming off its only loss of the year.
Kansas State is ranked right in the middle in both defensive and offensive scoring. The Wildcats are ranked 66th in defense allowing 25.4 points a game. The offense comes in at 67th while scoring 27.2 points a game. The Wildcats have been very ineffective throwing the ball, coming in at 107th with 156.4 yards a game. Their running game has been good with 208.8 yards a game, 26th overall. Look for Senior RB Daniel Thomas to have a big game. Thomas has 691 yards on the ground with 6 TDs. He is also coming off his best receiving game, which he had 8 catches for 36 yards. It appears that the QB situation will be decided at the start of the game. Senior QB Carson Coffman has been the starter and has put up 730 yards with 6 TDs and 3 Ints.
The Jayhawks come into this game looking to get things going. Their defense has been better than the offense, allowing 26.6 points a game which is 72nd overall. Their offense has struggled only averaging 19.2 points a game, 100th overall. Their rushing and passing yards are both outside the top 74. Their rushing game has been the strong point of the offense. They are averaging 141.8 yards a game which is 74th in the nation. Leading them on the ground is Freshman RB James Sims. Sims has 329 yards with 3 TDs. Throwing the football will be Freshman QB Jordan Webb who has 769 yards 6 TDs and 3 Ints.
With football picks, I like to take a team lead by older more mature players. The Wildcats should start Senior QB Carson Coffman. He simply gives them the best chance to win. Also, Senior RB Daniel Thomas should have a huge game. I still lack confidence with Freshman starting at QB and RB for Kansas. The Jayhawks are at home and coming off a bye week, so they will look to upset the Wildcats and show that they are the best team in Kansas.
