The Buffalo Bills have announced that they have activated tight end Shawn Nelson from the reserve/suspended list and released outside linebacker Chris Ellis. Nelson was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

"Anytime you see your teammates struggling like that in that way and you're watching it and wishing you could be there and you're itching and craving to get in and make a play," said Nelson, who has an extra week to get ready for another game with the Bills on their bye this week. "It's just reminds you of how much you love this game and how much you love your teammates and how much you want to help these guys win."

Ellis recorded five tackles and a sack in week one, when he filled in for Reggie Torbor. Ellis struggled to transition from playing defensive end in the 4-3 to outside linebacker in the 3-4. Ellis played mainly on special teams after Torbor returned.
