With the news that the NFL is looking into the allegations that Brett Favre sent Jenn Sterger, a former New York Jets employee, inappropriate text messages, the pressure is on Favre.
There's a lot swirling around him and a lot of things are being said about him and his character if these things are true. It's a black mark on his reputation right now and if it's true, it could ruin said reputation.
Inside you'll find 10 reasons why this scandal could ruin the future Hall of Famer's legacy.
If these allegations are true about Brett Favre, then it will be something he can never get away from.
Much like Tiger Woods, no matter what he does, he'll be Brett Favre, the great quarterback who sent lewd pictures to another woman while he was married. It's already circling him and as more comes out about the situation, it's only going to get worse for Favre.
He'll never escape this if it's true.
Brett Favre is the spokesman for Wrangler and has done a few ads for Sears among other things.
If these things are true, he can forget about all of that stuff. Favre will be a persona non grata in terms of that realm and he won't be back in that area for a long, long time. Companies don't exactly want people who expose themselves in text messages to endorse their product.
Brett Favre has slowly but surely worn out some of his good faith in the eyes of the public.
Favre used to be a beloved figure by most NFL fans but over the past few years with the way he's handled his playing career and all of the speculation about his possible retirement has just turned a lot of people against him.
He's been portrayed as a diva and if you add the stigma of the allegations to it, it's even worse. It makes him look even more selfish and childish. The man's a grandfather and he's sending those photos out to a woman that isn't his wife.
I'm not sure how many Brett Favre fans will be left after that.
Favre in recent years has been portrayed as a family man who just lives a simple life on his farm and plays football.
However, the Old Gunslinger will have that come crashing down around him if these allegations are proven in the least bit. You can't be a family man who has grandchildren and be sexting young women who are somewhat associated with your team.
You're Brett Favre, not Hugh Hefner.
We already have the rumors and allegations involving Jenn Sterger and the two other Jets employees but what if women come forward from the Packers saying this happened them?
What about the Vikings as well? It could snowball much like it did for Tiger Woods last fall and could get out of hand in a hurry. These types of allegations are like a feeding frenzy and they can multiply overnight. If there's more, it's going to be an even bigger blow to his reputation.
When Brett Favre's wife, Deanna, wrote her book, she wrote about how Brett had a history of cheating on her and it got so bad that at one point, she sat down and said it stops or she's gone and never coming back.
After that, she said Brett changed his ways but these allegations throw all of that into question. Then it's clear that he's a serial cheater and that it's just who he is as a person. Being looked at as a scummy person is nothing anyone wants to be seen as.
The one way that certain players have been able to escape allegations and take the pressure off of themselves is to perform on the field, as sad as that is.
However, Brett Favre has been awful under center for Minnesota this year and when you play poorly on top of personal issues, it just makes it exponentially worse because there's no escape from the questions and the whispers. If Favre continues to slip, this could be the final image we get of Brett. Broken down and surrounded by scandal.
It's not a good look.
There's already been plenty of distraction around the Vikings, from Favre to start the season, now Randy Moss and now these allegations about Jenn Sterger.
The players may say it doesn't bother them but if I were them, I'd be a little annoyed that every time Minnesota gets brought up it has something to do with Farve. The Vikings need to focus on football and so far this year they've been unable to do that.
Favre going out with a brutally bad year is not good for his legacy.
Deanna Favre has said before that she doesn't play around with Brett and his infidelity anymore and if this is true, you'd think that she'd say enough is enough and just walk away.
It's not an easy thing to do, to leave your husband and the father of your children but you can't let someone continually abuse your trust, even after an ultimatum. A public divorce after a very public scandal would be awful for his legacy and would do so much damage to his mental focus as he tries to continue playing football.
With Roger Goodell and the NFL looking into these allegations and putting the investigation on a fast track, there's a chance that Brett Favre could be suspended by the league if these claims about Favre turn out to be the truth.
Goodell has shown in the past that you do not have to be arrested to be suspended under the league's personal conduct policy and if he's suspended, it would snap his streak of consecutive games started, which is just the most humilating way for a streak like that to end.
There would always be an asterisk next to his streak and that would be the ultimate embarrassment.
