Dear Coach Payton,

The only highlight Jason David has provided the Saints with came in the 2007 season opener against the Indianapolis Colts. I'm sure you remember when he returned a fumble for a touchdown, as it's the only good thing he's done since becoming a Saint.

This restricted free-agent pick up has got to be the worse acquisition in the last decade. I beg you to do something about it quickly, or the New Orleans Saints' fans will not be happy for much longer.

Last year, week after week, we watched wide receivers score at will on the right side of the field. Jason David was made to look as if he had never played a game of football in his life.

Your staff, however, stayed with him, allowing David an opportunity to redeem himself.

Granted, we cannot blame every defensive problem on Jason David, but we can say with confidence that he has done nothing to remedy these problems. It is absolutely fair to put most of the blame on him, as so many touchdowns came on plays that he failed miserably to defend. On most plays, David was not even within five yards of the receiver.

On Saturday, against the Texans, he was again a lost puppy. David allowed far too many passes to be caught in his area.

Saints fans in the Superdome showered the arena with boos after David allowed a touchdown and two, crucial third-down conversions.

Coach Payton, please put this guy out of his misery. Put Saints' fans out of their misery, and let's move on.

Between Aaron Glen, Tracy Porter, Randall Gay, and Usama Young, there has to be someone better.

Porter and Young need more repetitions, but releasing Jason David will allow them and the others to gain adequate experience.

There are options, Coach Payton. Please make this defense better and explore them.

Sincerely Yours,
Robert Lewis

  1. This is a prime example of a team not wanting to look silly by benching an expensive acquisition. "He played for a Super Bowl team, so he must be good!"

It shouldn't work this way. Nice article.

    1. Thanks for the read,

Everyone makes mistakes, and Jason David is a big one, they should own up to it, and move on. I would rather not even have him on the team as a 4th backup, just get rid of him. I would feel allot better.

  2. A-freakin-men!!!!

i have a feeling that for the rest of the season on monday mornings, instead of asking my wife what she wants on her toast, i'll be asking her what she wants on her jason david.

did he get beat by a TE for TD???????

if mckenzie is healthy and gay can hold down the other corner, david should ride the pine and jsut be happy he swindled a fat contract out of us.

  3. I like toast, with grape jelly, Jason David is Burnt Toast. Yes a tight end I believe so..

  4. If he is on the field other than special teams, then the Saints are not playing their best players.

  5. Great Letter. However as Saints fans we have been crying for years at poor player aquisitions and uses. Lets hope that Peyton makes it different. But I got a 5 spot that says David lines up in the same place when the season starts.

    Saintsgirl

  6. After the poor performance by David in the Houstoin game, and most fans blaming him how they did in 2007, I just dont see him starting. Coach Payton will have to many questions to answer if he starts David against Tampa, and he gets burn't and we lose.
