Former San Francisco 49er running back, Glen Coffee, was arrested early Friday morning by Fort Walton Beach Police in Florida, for possession of a concealed weapon.

Police stopped Coffee when they spotted his 2008 Cadillac Escalade exceeding the speed limit. During the stop it was revealed that the car was not registered and that Coffee had no auto insurance.

A subsequent search uncovered a "black 380 SIG Sauer automatic pistol" in the center console of the SUV. The gun was said to be cocked and very accessible to Coffee.

Fort Walton Beach, Florida, is where Coffee played high school football before attending the University of Alabama.

Prior to the start of the regular season, Coffee retired from football claiming he had no desire to play.

He went on to say that he had found Christ in college and he was having trouble reconciling his faith with the violent nature of football.

"Actually when I look back I feel I never should have entered the draft in the first place. Football was no longer my dream. I found Christ in college. It changed my views on everything. But I still was a football player because it was expected of me, it was something I did all my life. I was basically wasting the [49ers'] time.

While Coffee is in jail, perhaps he can try to reconcile his faith with a cocked and loaded hand gun.

The charge carries a third-degree felony. Coffee is scheduled to appear in court November 16th.
