Blue Jays-Red Sox: Toronto Enjoys a Convincing 15-4 Win Over Boston

Not much was expected from the Jays' offense tonight, as they were up against Boston ace Josh Beckett.

Fortunately for Toronto, they were able to jump on him early and ended the game with a convincing 15-4 victory, ending their road trip with five wins in six games against the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox.

The Jays started off the game with a bang, scoring six runs in the first inning. They managed at least one run in seven of the nine innings.

Eight of the nine batters in the lineup got a hit, with Rod Barajas being the exception. He did manage to get on and score twice, however.

Many franchise and season records were set today in the onslaught. The Jays established a club record with 10 doubles and matched a franchise best with 12 extra-base hits. The 37 total bases they amassed represented a season high, as did the 15 runs. Their 22 hits were the most the Red Sox had yielded in a game all season.

The team also finished a season best 10 for 25 with runners in scoring position and hit .458 in the game. Rios also tied a club record with four doubles, as he went five for six with two RBI and three runs scored.

Lind also had a big night, once again raising his average above .300 by going three for six, adding his eighth home run of the season.

Josh Beckett would only go two-and-one-third innings today, giving up eight runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out three batters. The next five relievers after him all gave up at least one run until Jonathon Papelbon finally came on in the ninth to stop the bleeding.

Despite struggling with his control, pitcher Shaun Marcum managed to put in a decent performance.

Marcum managed to go five innings, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out four batters. Marcum would also walk an alarmingly high four batters, but he managed to stay out of trouble for the most part.

His only real mistake was the home-run pitch that he offered up to Kevin Youkilis. B.J. Ryan closed the game in the ninth for the Jays.
