After Dwayne Jarrett's second DUI in four years this morning, the Carolina Panthers have decided to release the troubled young receiver. To replace his spot on the roster, the Panthers signed former New York Jet David Clowney.

"We had a chance to pick up off waivers a receiver we considered claiming when he became available four weeks ago," Panthers GM Marty Hurney said in a statement. "We wish Dwayne the best. I talked to Dwayne and told him the situation here is just not working out for either side."

Earlier today, before I got news of Jarrett's DUI, I was telling some friends that I thought the Panthers would release Jarrett this week, due to his on-the-field preformance. I turned out half right, but head coach John Fox explained to Pat Kirwin, that Jarrett was released because of his DUI.

"I think we've got a situation here where we do a lot of things for our guys to make sure that doesn't happen and he couldn't follow the protocol so we're going to move on," head coach John Fox said.

Expect Brandon LaFell and David Gettis to start this week, while Steve Smith is out. Armanti Edwards should see time in the slot. Clowney may see a couple snaps, but he will first have to learn the offense.

Expect Jarrett to serve a short suspension for his DUI. Jarrett might not play again this season, but I do expect him to compete for a job next off season.
