WOW! These past two weeks we have all witnessed greatness. 8 races, 8 gold medals, 7 world records. This absolute freak of nature is 23 and already being considered the greatest Olympian of all time. Too early? Maybe, but barring something unexpectedly horrible he will surely compete at the 2012 Olympics in London and should become the most decorated Olympian ever.
His performances have left a nation, and the world speechless. I have never personally been more invested in swimming on any level before until the Games started. Phelps alone managed to change the way I think about the term "greatness."
The only thing I have left to say is congratulations Michael. You managed to keep an entire nation on their edge of their seats with your swimming. Whether winning by a ridiculous margin or the slimmest, you were able to do what no one has ever done at a single Olympics before. You truly are a man among boys in the world of swimming.
