The Detroit Lions: Honolulu Blue Collar

adam smereckiCorrespondent IAugust 16, 2008

I know, I know, why would anyone want to write a piece on the Detroit Lions? Well, they don't look too bad this year.

Before you have a heart attack let me explain...

I thought (as we say in Detroit) I was Lions free. To tell the truth those love able losers sucked me right back in. I have tried in the past to adopt another team and it just didn't work. I went through The Patriots, The Packers, and even The Cardinals but I am drawn to my home town team.

This team without sounding too cliche is "blue collar." I don't mean blue collar like Don Cherry thinks it means (red neck), I mean it as a compliment. The Lions are not too flashy but they will play football this year. They don't have a quarterback controversy, they may have the most talented secondary in the NFC North, Kevin Smith has a lot of promise, and John Kitna has the highest quarterback rating in the division.

I am not one for predictions but, the Lions will be better than most sports writers think.

This season the Lions will play over the front office's inability to draft, the Ford's tight purse strings, and every bad move Matt Millen can make.
