Bad from last year:
The Colorado Avalanche allowed 9 shorthanded goals and were unable to stop teams from scoring while on the penalty kill. Their penalty kill on the road was a 77.4%. Another thing the Aves struggled with was scoring first. There were more games when the Aves gave up the first goal than scoring the first goal. The other bad thing was relying on the goalie. They allowed the most shots per game than any team in the playoffs last year.
Good from last year:
You have to like the fact that the Aves were able to score shorthanded goals and that they were able to score on the power play. Their special teams were average last year. Another thing that you have to take in for the good was that they went from worst to a play off birth.
Best Free Agent Lost:
The Aves will miss Brett Clark on the defensive end.
Best Free Agent Signed:
The Aves didn’t sign anyone new in the free agent market. It should be good in terms of chemistry.
Where they should be this year:
Colorado had better start killing penalties and they better get more early leads this year if they want to make another playoff run. Goaltending was great for Colorado and Colorado was also able to score more times than not when on the power play. As time goes on this young team will get better. So, I see this team winning their division this year.
