Columbus Blue Jackets Season Preview

Bad from last year:
The fact that the Blue Jackets couldn’t stay out of the penalty box was a killer. They allowed 181 power plays last year. That’s the most of any team. Columbus also allowed 9 shorthanded goals last year. Another thing that killed Columbus was the 2-10 record in shootouts. No team had a worst shootout record than Columbus. Also, when scoring first the Blue Jackets had a winning percentage of 52.6%. That’s not going to win games, considering that they only scored first 38 times last season.
Good:
The Blue Jackets did have little good things last year. They were in the top half in the power play percentage and they did have a winning record against the Southeast division. The Southeast division was the only division that Columbus had a winning record against.
Best Free Agent Gained:
Ben Guite should be a big contributor on the offensive end.
Where I see the Blue Jackets in 2010:
The Blue Jackets need to stay out of the penalty box. If Columbus could have more power plays than penalty kills this year then look for the Jackets to have a good season. With their talent they should have a good year. But, if they stay in the penalty box again, they won’t be able to use their talent, which will lead to a bad year.
