This Sunday the Seattle Seahawks will look to avoid yet another road letdown when they head to the Edward Jones Dome to take on the St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks improved to 2-1 on the season with an impressive 27-20 win over the Chargers last Sunday, while the Rams stunned the Redskins 30-16 at home for their first win of the year. The Seahawks have dropped 16 of 19 on the road, but have had success at St. Louis, as they ride a 10-game win streak against the Rams this Sunday. If you are thinking about betting on the game this weekend, the current NFL odds have the Seahawks favored by one point over the Rams on the road.

Seattle (2-1)

So far so good for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks, as they are out to their best start in three years, and are currently tied for first place in the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals. However the Seahawks must learn how to win on the road if they want a legit shot at winning the West this season. In their only road game of the season the Seahawks got thumped by the Denver Broncos 31-14.

Last week against the Chargers the Seahawks got a big lift from backup running back Leon Washington, as set a franchise record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns. The Seahawks also got a big day from the defense, as they forced the Chargers into five turnovers, including two interceptions off quarterback Philip Rivers.

Seattle jumped out to an early 17-0 lead, but really had to grind it out for the win. Seattle had just 271 yards of total offense compared to the Chargers 518. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 220 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win, while running back Justin Forsett added 63 yards on 17 carries on the ground. The offense has to play better, as they simply can’t count on two special teams touchdowns and five turnovers each week.

St. Louis (1-2)

It appears as though the Rams made the right choice by taking quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick, as this is a much better looking Rams team than years past. Bradford really played well last week against the Redskins, as he threw for 235 yards and a touchdown.

Wideout Michael Clayton continues to refine his career with St. Louis, as he hauled in five catches for 85 yards. However the win didn’t come without some bad news, as the Rams are likely without star running back Steven Jackson for at least the upcoming week. Jackson has not been ruled out of the game against the Seahawks, but you have to imagine the Rams will be very careful with arguably their best player.

With a win this weekend the Rams could jump into a three-way tie for first place, as the Cardinals are expected to lose on the road at San Diego. It would be quite a turnaround for a franchise that won just one game all season. While the offense looks like it is on the right track, I was really impressed with how the defense played last week against the Redskins, as they forced two turnovers and were amazing on third downs, as Washington went just 1-10 on third downs in the game.

Looking at the Odds

I am going to take the Rams to cover the one-point spread this weekend, even if Jackson is unable to go. Forget the past success the Seahawks have had against St. Louis, as just about every other team in the NFL would have beat up on this team the past few years. Bradford looks like the real deal, and I think he will come out with a monster game this Sunday. My final score prediction is St Louis 23, Seattle 20.
