I am very happy with how the picks progressed this week as I called the Seahawks beating the Chargers at home and the Titans winning at the New York Giants.
Teams that are on my hate list are the 49ers not only losing in Kansas City, but also losing 31-3. I may never pick the 49ers the rest of the season.
I also was disappointed with the Washington Redskins and their poor showing in St. Louis. Through three weeks, St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford looks like the real deal.
As always, a close loss prevented me from having a better week. The New Orleans Saints K Garrett Hartley’s missed field goal in overtime caused my pick of a Saints victory to be incorrect, as the Atlanta Falcons won 27-24. However, I picked the Arizona Cardinals to win and was saved by a missed game-winning chip shot by Oakland Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski. Most NFL games are going to be close and the breaks tend to even out.
As always, the first five games are the games I have identified as the best matchups of the week, followed by the rest of the games. My record for the season is 30-18.
1) San Francisco 49ers (0-3) at Atlanta Falcons (2-1) – The 49ers have had arguably the worst start to the season. Considered by many a slam-dunk to win the NFC West, instead they are 0-3 and have been outscored 38-87. They are 31st in points scored, 31st in points allowed and 32nd in point differential. They fired offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye in an attempt to shake things up. Keep in mind that since 1990, only three teams that started the season 0-3 went on to make the playoffs and of those three none advanced to the conference championship game. The 49ers are probably playing for their season at this point and are in a very tough spot...
